Sania Mirza-Vesnina win Family Circle doubles

Sania Mirza, partnering Russia's Elena Vesnina, lifted her second WTA title with a straight set win over the American pair of Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy in Charleston on Sunday. The Indo-Russian pair, unseeded at the Family Circle Cup, beat the fourth seeds 6-4, 6-4. Three weeks ago, Mirza and Vesnina had beaten the same opponents to lift the trophy at Indian Wells.
Mirza and Vesnina, though won in straight sets, were made to stretch a little after they let slip a comfortable lead in both sets. After racing away to a 5-1 lead in the first, the Americans won three games in a row to make it 5-4 but Mirza and Vesnina managed to close out the set in the nick of time. In the second, the Americans clawed their way back from a 0-4 deficit to even the set but Vesnina upped her game to secure the victory. This is Mirza and Vesnina's fifth tournament together and the duo have been performing consistently since they joined hands. This was Mirza's 11th doubles title while Vesnina won her fifth.
