Devendro Singh, Manoj Kumar and Jai Bhagwan qualify for London Olympics

Devendro Singh, Manoj Kumar and Jai Bhagwan to become the first Indian boxers to qualify for the London Olympics with contrasting victories at the World Boxing Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. Debutant Devendro (49kg), Commonwealth Games gold medallist Manoj (64kg) and Jai (60kg) outpunched their rivals in varying styles to enter the quarter-finals. Devendro knocked out his higher-ranked opponent Carlos Quipo of Ecuador 18-12 with another power-packed performance to underline his growing stature at the international stage. Manoj, however, was made to work hard as he rallied to edge past Chinese Qing Hu 17-15 in his pre-quarterfinal bout. Jai fought a tense battle with seventh seed David Joyce of Ireland but held his nerves to come out victorious 32-30.
