Parupalli Kashyap wins in men's badminton‎

Shuttler Parupalli Kashyap completed a convincing straight sets win to get off on a winning note at the London Olympics on Saturday. However, mixed doubles duo Jwala Gutta and V Diju went down in their opening match. Kashyap beat Belgian's Yuhan Tan 21-14, 21-12 in a lopsided encounter lasting 35 minutes. The Indian, who is appearing in his maiden Olympics, never looked in trouble as Tan was left trailing through the games.
In the opening game, Kashyap ensured he maintained a steady lead as he moved from 8-7 to 16-13. The Belgian failed to reduce the gap as Kashyap powered to a 21-14 win. The second set saw Kashyap get off to a flyer with a 6-1 lead. While the defiant Tan fought back, Kashyap made sure he kept the Belgian out of contention as he charged past to a stunning 21-12 finish. In his next Group D clash, Kashyap takes on Vietnam's Tien Minh Nguyen.
